A month into the active monsoon season in Nepal, widespread flooding and landslides have caused significant disruptions across the nation. In response, Nepali Army has been mobilized for search, rescue, and relief operations to protect lives and property of the people. Collaborating with Local Communities, Civilian Authorities, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal, And Humanitarian Workers and Volunteers, Nepali Army is responding to the devastation caused by the monsoon rains. As the monsoon rains intensified in mid-June, Nepali Army has placed all units and formations, including Disaster Response Battalions, on high alert. This readiness has been crucial in responding swiftly to potential disasters. Nepali Army has been involved in rescuing individuals trapped in landslides and floods, search, rescue, and extrication of people entrapped in the vehicles submerged or washed away in rivers, clearing landslide debris, reopening blocked roads, constructing and maintaining flood barriers, relocating people to safe places, and conducting aerial rescues via helicopters. The monsoon has caused extensive damage through numerous small-scale disasters. According to National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC), over 92 lives have been lost, and property worth more than 111 million Nepali Rupees has been destroyed in 795 monsoon-related incidents and thunderbolts across the country since June 10, 2024. Nepali Army remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any larger-scale disasters that may occur as the monsoon season progresses. As the monsoon continues, the army is committed to maintaining the highest level of alertness and readiness to safeguard the nation against further calamities.
