Since its establishment in the 1819 (BS), Nepali Army has been primarily focused on national security and territorial integrity. However, due to the Nepal’s vulnerability to natural disasters, Nepali Army has always extended its role to include in various types of disasters response, driven by the need to assist the Nepali people during emergencies. One of the most significant early instances of the Nepali Army’s disaster response was during the 1934 earthquake (१९९० सालको भुकम्प), which caused extensive damage in Kathmandu and other regions. The army was pivotal in rescue operations, clearing debris, and providing medical aid in response to the earthquake.
